As an essential service with a large, distributed workforce, the pandemic has brought about a new wave of entrepreneurship as well as challenges for Pact Group.
With more than 110 operating sites, Pact Group is the largest manufacturer of plastic packaging products in Australasia. When COVID-19 first hit, Pact Group quickly scaled its production of hand sanitisers and has now become the largest manufacturer in Australia.
Having started the role of EGM, HR in March 2020, Simon Cowl narrates his experience starting a new role in lockdown. He shares insights regarding managing a distributed workforce, made up of factory and back-office workers, as well as:

Simon Cowl is an HR Professional with 25 years’ experience in consulting and corporate environments. He currently serves as the Executive General Manager, HR, for Pact Group; an ASX listed company with 6000 employees across 10 countries and over $2 billion revenue.
Simon has previously worked as the Vice President of HR for GlaxoSmithKline based out of Australia and Singapore leading HR for a portfolio of countries across the world. Prior to this, he has worked in FMCG and Management Consulting, developing HR knowledge and experiences.
Simon’s strengths include the design and implementation of HR strategies to drive business results, leading high performing HR teams, strong business acumen and continually assessing the HR function to add value.
Simon has a Bachelor of Business and a Graduate Diploma from Monash University as well as a Masters in Human Resource Management.
